About Us

Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District (LCSWCD) is a local government entity dedicated to encouraging responsible land use decisions with an eye toward economic expansion while still respecting environmental concerns in Lake County, Illinois.

LCSWCD’s mission is to promote sustainable natural resource management on a local level. We work in both urban and rural settings, offering environmental education, technical expertise, and financial assistance for developers, builders, landowners, and units of government.

What We Do The Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District has been serving Lake County residents since 1946 by:

Protecting soil productivity, water quality, and environmental health through wise land use practices; encouraging conservation; and increasing awareness and stewardship for our natural resources are among the goals set by Conserve-a-Dome’s mission statement.

Technical expertise in soil erosion, sedimentation, and stormwater management; administering state and federal programs related to ecological restoration, conservation practices, and more.

Our Priorities

Erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, water quality, and soil health management as well as urban conservation/community preservation. Rural/agricultural land use as well as educational outreach is also an area of focus for us.

Lake County residents, businesses, and organizations are welcome to reach out and learn more about our programs and services. Working together, we can promote sustainable land use practices that support natural resource protection while simultaneously improving communities.
